Alabama A&M President Wims to speak at Drake State Graduation
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Drake State Community & Technical College will hold its 2022 commencement ceremony Thursday, May 12 at 6 pm on the campus of Alabama A&M University. New Alabama A&M President Dr. Daniel K. Wims will be the speaker. Wims was recently appointed president after serving as the university’s Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Research, and Professor of Agricultural Sciences.
Drake State President Patricia G. Sims extends congratulations to the graduating class, “I have no doubts that as you transition from students to alumni, you will continue to be worthy ambassadors for the college. The world awaits your exceptional training, your outstanding work ethics, and marvelous personalities.”
The ceremony will include the presentation of graduates, conferring of awards, and induction of alumni.
Dr. Wims has received several honors and awards from USDA, and fellowships for study and research at both the Ohio State University and the University of Maryland, College Park. He has been Omega Man of the Year and recognized as an outstanding young graduate of Fort Valley State University. His professional, social, and religious affiliations include serving as an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, memberships in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Life Member), Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, and the Fort Valley State University Alumni Association (Life Member). Dr. Wims is married to AAMU’s First Lady Daphne Wims.
