The Summer College Experience That Pays You!

3/6/2012

Each summer though a grant from the National Science Foundation, Drake State offers programs designed to engage interest in careers related to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).  This year is no different.  The Summer Bridge Program will once again provide opportunities for rising high school juniors and seniors and also for working adults and recent high school graduates.

The High School Summer Bridge Program is designed for rising high school juniors and seniors who would like to become more familiar with the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.  Using highly interactive learning classroom learning , field trips and hands on opportunities, students are exposed to interesting and fun topics in Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Computer Science.  Students will learn to build a personal portfolio and explore physics simulations that are animated with game-like environments.  If a student attends all of the classes, he or she will receive $544.00 for participating.  Additionally, students who successfully complete the program will receive either dual enrollment credit or three (3) college credit hours for CIS146 Microcomputer Applications.

The Adult Summer Bridge Program provides the same quality learning experience as the program for high school students but is designed to accommodate working adults and recent high school graduates.  The program provides an exceptional opportunity for learners who have successfully attained a G.E.D., are displaced workers in need of additional education or anyone who is interested in expanding their knowledge in Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Computer Science.  If a student attends all of the classes he or she will receive $544.00 for participating.  Students who successfully complete the program will receive three (3) college credit hours for CIS146 Microcomputer Applications.

The program consists of a total of 64 hours.  High School Student Session meets June 4 – June 28, 2012, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Adult Session meets June 4-July 26, 2012, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
