DRAKE STATE TRIO STUDENTS SUPPORTING SALVATION ARMY

9/29/2016

Huntsville, AL – On September 16th, a group of eight TRiO students packaged and delivered hygiene items donated from faculty, students and staff from a Drake State campus-wide drive to benefit the Salvation Army.  Salvation Army staff offered them a tour of the facilities and a hot lunch in the community kitchen.  This event provided students an opportunity to give back to the community and engage in service learning.

Items donated included soap, shampoo, deodorant, razors, toothbrushes, and more. Thirty individual hygiene kits were packaged for donation, as well as a big box of larger items that can be shared by those who stay at the overnight shelter.  The Salvation Army provides many services to Huntsville and Madison County, including homeless prevention, meal services, and drug rehabilitation.  A big thank you goes out to their staff and all who donated their time and hygiene items to make this donation drive a success!  Together, we supported an organization that provides life-changing assistance to our community.
